OVERVIEW

Cobbler Square was a design proposal for renovating a significant number of units within the Cobbler’s Square Lofts in Chicago. The concept aimed to tie the main exterior element, a red metal structural, to the interior units. The proposal included wrapping the loft spaces with a new metal mesh with larger brake metal panels at openings between the mesh and the more public areas of the loft. Ownership aimed to paint the metal to make the building appear more contemporary, so our proposal aimed to match the same color.

The project consisted of an extremely modest budget, so the aim was to utilize an affordable material, metal mesh, throughout the project that would benefit from the economies of scale of renovating multiple units at the same time. This screen acts as a more cost effective way to differentiate public vs private space compared to a gypsum wall.
